Before its sudden and mysterious disappearance on or about Monday August 19, 2002, the
"listen4ever" Web site offered free music downloads over the Internet. This service was
reminiscent of the popular Napster file-sharing service, but Listen4ever apparently went a step
further by actually hosting a centralized location for file downloads. By all appearances,
Listen4ever was hosted by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in China, but all attempts to
discover the true identities of the Web site's owners proved ineffective. Consequently, the
Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) filed suit against several major ISPs in the
United States seeking an order from a federal court which would force these ISPs to block traffic to the
Listen4ever Web site. However, when the Listen4ever Web site
