The actor, writer, director, and producer known as "Vin Diesel" was born Mark Vincent in
New York City on July 18, 1967.
He is best known for his starring role in XXX, but he began acting in small New
York theatre productions at the age of seven. For many years he was forced to support
himself by working in less glamorous jobs, such as a bouncer and telemarketer.
Meanwhile, he majored in English at Hunter College, but dropped out after three years to
make Multi-Facial, a short film based on his experiences as a struggling actor.
Multi-Facial played at the Cannes Film Festival in 1995 and attracted the
attention of Steven Spielberg, who cast Vin as Private Adrian Caparzo in the
