A Guide to Search Results for "Ventura"

The search term "ventura" is a Spanish word that translates into English as "luck." However, for English-speakers in the United States, Ventura is primarily a geographic reference to one of three localities: the City and/or County of Ventura in Southern California, the City of Ventura in Cerro Gourdo County, Iowa, or the City of Ventura, Florida. Of these three locations, the California city of Ventura, known officially as the City of San Buenaventura, is much more prominent than the cities in Iowa and Florida. The California city of Ventura was established in 1782 as Mission San Buenaventura, one of the Spanish Missions in the California Mission System. In addition to being a geographic reference to various cities and counties, Ventura Boulevard is the name of a prominent business corridor at the south end of the San Fernando Valley in the city and county of Los Angeles, California. Moreover, there are many prominent businesses that use Ventura as a brand name even though they have no connection whatsoever to any of the geographic locales called Ventura.
