A Guide to Search Results for "Los Angeles"

The search term "Los Angeles" is typically used by people who are looking for general information about the City and/or County of Los Angeles, which is/are located in Southern California. However, the name Los Angeles (literally, "The Angels") is actually a shortened version of the name given to El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles del Río de Porciúncula when California was part of Mexico, and Mexico was a territory of Spain. The more lengthy name translates roughly into English as "The Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels of the Small Portion." There are 88 incorporated cities within the County of Los Angeles, and some 100 communities within the city limits, each with their own names and zip codes, and as a geographic locale Los Angeles County has tremendous significance as being more or less contiguous with the Los Angeles-Long Beach Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA), which (in turn) is part of the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area (CMSA) that also includes Riverside, Ventura, and Orange County. Notwithstanding the exclusion of the major metropolitan area of San Diego further south, the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County CMSA is what most people think of as "Southern California," which has been a popular destination for tourists, immigrants, and entrepreneurs for hundreds of years.
