"The Sims" is the latest "sim game" in the Maxis series created by Wil Wright. There are many different sim games, and the sim games are themselves a subset of one of many different types of computer simulation games known as "god games." Like other computer simulation games, god games are played in a virtual world. However, the inhabitants of a god game's virtual world have their own personalities and cannot be controlled directly without expending a great deal of time and effort. As such, the object of these games is to allow the characters to be more or less self-sufficient while meddling in their lives and making important life decisions for them.
