"Powerball" is the name of a multi-state lottery administered by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), a non-profit, government-benefit association owned and operated by its 24 member lotteries. All profits that are derived from the games administered by the MUSL are retained by the various member lotteries and are used to fund projects approved by the various state legislatures, or (in the case of the District of Columbia) the Council of the District of Columbia. While the multi-state Powerball lottery is trademarked in the United States, there is a Powerball lottery in Australia which has no connection to the MUSL Powerball game. Moreover, Powerball is also used as a brand name for other, totally unrelated games, products, and services, including (most notably) various computer video games.
