The popular search term "no calls please" typically returns nothing but noise. It first became popular on Wednesday August 7, 2002, the day that the State of Pennsylvania debuted its phone system where Pennsylvania citizens could register to block telemarketing calls. The service proved to be so popular that the phone system designed to register people crashed on its first day of operation. Even so, by 5pm that same day, over 200,000 people successfully registered for the system over the Internet. Ironically enough, the "Do Not Call" law has spawned at least one telemarketing scam where telemarketers claim to be selling the call-blocking service.
