Virtually everyone who uses the search term "bible" is looking for Web sites that feature the Holy Book of the Judeo-Christian tradition known as The Bible. However, the Bible is not a single book; it is a collection of books written by dozens of authors over thousands of years, each book being of dubious authenticity, as there is no original manuscript known to be in existence for any book found in the Bible. The oldest versions of these books that do exist are copies of previous books that may have been copied and/or translated countless times themselves. Indeed, many outstanding biblical scholars have devoted their entire lives to authenticating small portions of a single book of the Bible, resulting in no less than six different scholarly versions of the Bible currently in print in the English language alone. Notwithstanding the pragmatic problems that biblical scholars encounter when trying to determine what belongs in the Bible and what does not, countless millions of Christians profess to believe that the Bible is the word of God, transcribed exactly as He[sic] intended it to be transcribed.
