The search term "San Diego California" is a more or less unequivocal geographical reference to the city and/or county of San Diego, which is/are located in Southern California. However, there is also a city named San Diego in the state of Texas. Both of these localities were named after the Spanish Catholic saint San Diego de Alcala, as was the flagship of Sebastian Vizcaino who sailed the San Diego into what was to become San Diego, California in November of 1602, approximately sixty years after Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo first discovered the area and declared it a possession of Spain. At that time, the area had already been continuosly populated by Native American Shosone Indians for several hundred years whereas the earliest aboriginal human settlements in San Diego predated European discovery by about 18,000 years.
