"Dragon Ball Z" is the second anime installment of the long running Dragon Ball anime and manga series created by Akira Toriyama. (Anime is Japanese animation, and Manga are Japanese comic books.) Following the original manga series, the three Dragon Ball televison anime series chronicled the adventures of Goku and his allies as they fought to defend the Earth. However, the producers of the television series decided to divide the original manga title Dragon Ball into Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball is the original television series, featuring stories about the main character Son Goku when he was a young boy. The Dragon Ball Z series began when Son Goku became an adult and had his first child Son Gohan.
