"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is an extremely popular syndicated television series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar that was inspired by a motion picture of the same name starring Kristy Swanson. The movie was far from a bomb, but the television series (a sort of pseudo-sequel to the movie) has a fanatical cult-like following and has inspired a spinoff television series called Angel starring one-time Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star David Boreanaz. The premise of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series is that Buffy is the "chosen one," the latest in a long line of chosen ones who have extraordinary strength and skill, giving rise to a sacred duty to "slay" vampires. However, the series was used as a showcase for all kinds of supernatural subjects, calling upon Buffy's abilities to slay a wide variety of demonic creatures.
